Iran Captures British Sailors - A Different Perspective
You may or may not have heard about the 15 British sailors captured by Iran last week. They were in disputed waters off the coast of Iraq, searching a merchant ship when they were surrounded by Iranian forces and taken back to Iran. Be sure and check out CNN and Fox's coverage - the latter is blatantly beating the war drum on this one.
But here's a unique perspective we don't hear about in the US, that of an Iranian:As an Iranian I need to clear up a couple of things:
1- The guy who said Britons will be used in cock-fights is a total retard, has no authority and is one of the most hated people in Iran.
2- Five hundred students who protested in support of detaining Britons consist an extremely tiny minority of Iranian students supported by government and protected by them. If other students were given a chance to demand freedom of British soldiers I bet thousands would have done that. Right now, they will be shot at and arrested if they do such a thing.
3- Same thing happend in 2004 (fewer soldiers detained back then) and they were freed in a couple of days. I was truely amazed by the amount of spin that Fox and CNN put on this story and tried to imply as if war has started.
Hopefully this will be over in a week or two.
