Bush Administration Incompetence Resurfaces

More examples of the Bush Administration’s gross incompetence have surfaced recently. The first being Bush’s Humanitarian Ambassador for Sudan, Andrew Natsios, who denies that genocide is happening in Darfur.

To put this statement into context, "the UN Mission in Sudan is currently providing the African Union with a 'light support package' that includes police advisers, civilian staff and additional resources and technical support." The “heavy support package” that was recently discussed proposed several hundred UN personnel assisting the African union, as well as around 17,000 troops and 3,000 police officers.

The plan was introduced in the midst of heightening international concern about Darfur, which the UN Secretary General has called the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Between 200,000 - 400,000 have been killed since the situation began, and at least 2.5 million have been displaced from their homes. The conflict is now spilling over into neighboring Chad, where between 200 and 400 people are feared dead.

Despite the UN’s position on the situation in Darfur, Mr. Natsios told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that “there is very little violence in Darfur right now. He also said that “there is very little fighting between rebels and the government and very few civilian casualties going on in Darfur right now.” One can reasonably presume the UN would not be sending 17,000 troops and 3,000 police officers if there was “very little violence” or “very few civilian casualties.”

Another frightening example of incompetence comes in the form of the US Justice Department.

Apparently the requirements for being the third-highest ranking official in the Justice Department involve never having worked as a US prosecutor and going to a law school that was created by a televangelist. Monica Goodling, a graduate of Regent University Law School which was founded by Pat Robertson, overcame the obstacle of never having been an attorney and was handed the job of overseeing 93 Bush appointed attorneys. Ms. Goodling resigned last week due to her involvement in the Justice Department’s scandal over 8 dismissed attorneys.

She was not alone, however, because the Bush Administration has appointed 150 graduates of Regent University to prominent government positions. Regent is a tier-4 law school, which is the lowest ranking in the country.
